Maybe it’s right. Maybe in life we do walk backwards. And maybe, that’s why we can never see the future but are always haunted by the past.

Summer Nights

There was one summer day
when everything was just blazing
the heat, the sun, the heart
I had nowhere to go, nowhere to hide.

There was one summer night
when I went out with no glass of wine
bare hands, bare eyes
staring blankly at the winking stars

Wondering if the way they lined up was what poets call “aligned”
wondering if mine aligns this time
wondering if yours too, lined up with mine.

There were countless summer nights
since then
with or without wine
with or without the sunshine
with, never without, you.

There will be a day where I don’t have to do a 40-minute return walk to get a hug.

There will be a day where I’d be able to keep snuggling you between waking up, taking a shower, and eating a bowl of cereals, before finally dragging myself to work.

There will be such day.

Because sometimes the best thing to do is doing nothing.

And sometimes the best scene is of the sunshine that pops up for a minute after a whole gloomy day.

Which then illuminates your already-glowing skin. Creating shadows, adding depth of fields.

Inviting me to cave in.

Because words freeze at your stare.

So forgive me for repeating the same things over and over.

They say this world is a picture, and mine consists of one set of shades.

Your smell.

Your voice.

Your smile.

And you.
