Summer Nights

September 15, 2013 § Leave a comment

There was one summer day
when everything was just blazing
the heat, the sun, the heart
I had nowhere to go, nowhere to hide.

There was one summer night
when I went out with no glass of wine
bare hands, bare eyes
staring blankly at the winking stars

Wondering if the way they lined up was what poets call “aligned”
wondering if mine aligns this time
wondering if yours too, lined up with mine.

There were countless summer nights
since then
with or without wine
with or without the sunshine
with, never without, you.

And so Adam called her Eve
because before her, daylights were nights
and in his heart was an unfathomable question
with a faint tinge of emptiness.

And so Adam called her Eve
because she was the prelude necessary
for the dawn that marks bright days ahead
for the “now”s that never end.

And so Adam called her Eve
because she was the line so thin
between the past and what lasts.

I’d catch a grenade for you
but you say, then what’s the use, if you’re gonna be left alone anyway.

I’d strive to be the most
but you say, it’s not a superhero that you’re looking for.

I’d stay as long as I could wait
but you say, what seems too good to be true might truly be so.

Of You And Me

Just as the night blankets the day
embracing the light with its blackness
foolish dreams start to invade
feeble faith comes into mind, amidst
ruthless fact of you and me:
everlastingly together
yet never in a way I’d like it to be.

Perfect circle marks the sky
reminding me of my heart, halved away
Again and again I cry out your name
signaling a wish never fulfilled
Even the gods, they laugh at me
tortured silently by tantalizing fantasies
yet I stayed, for
only your name ever make this heart beats fast.

i’d be the lifebuoy to save your heart
when you’re way too deep drowning in brokenness
i’d break the cold thin surface of your heart
to remind you
of the love you’ve long forgotten
of the warm stream hidden beneath your tears

i’d be the lifebuoy
that brings you back to the rim of reality and dreams

i’d by the lifebuoy
the one you’ll stash on the bed of sand

i’d be that lifebuoy

The Unpublished Stories of the Supernumerary: Numbers

One sight.
Two beautiful eyes.
Three long talks at nights.
Four butterflies in my stomach.
Five occurrences in my dreams.
Six wishes under the stars.
Seven candles lit next to the altar.
Eight cries when you’re afar.
Nine fights of mind and heart.
Ten months passed, you’re still not here, and I still wait.

maybe we’re just not meant to be
maybe it’s my fault
maybe it’s a mistake
maybe I was just too quick
maybe what I did wasn’t right
maybe I made you afraid
but it’s just a maybe
and I’m not sure

maybe I love you
maybe you’re perfect
maybe you’re not
maybe it was just a crush
maybe it wasn’t real
but it’s just a maybe
and I’m not sure

but I miss you
and that is true.
